How to Date During the Holidays, Dec. 4th, 2010

The holidays can be a tricky time for everyone. But, they’re especially hard if you’re single or recently divorced. It starts at Halloween and goes through New Year’s. It’s easy to think that everyone else has the perfect relationship, family, group of friends, to share the holidays with.

And that can leave you feeling a little… well… needy.

And that’s where you can get into trouble. There’s the temptation to get involved with someone who isn’t really right for you. Or if you’re seeing someone, there’s the tendency to put pressure on the relationship for more closeness or commitment.

So what’s a girl (or guy) to do?

  • Reach out for support, especially from friends or family where you really feel included
  • Be open to meeting new people at holiday get-togethers, but try to keep things light
  • When friends or family ask if you’re seeing anyone – let them know you’re open to being set up with someone they like and respect
  • If you’re seeing someone, remember the goal is “Damage control!” (Don’t do anything to make things worse!) The last thing you need is extra relationship stress during an already stressful time.

Then, you can look at things with fresh eyes in the New Year.

I hope you can join me for my December 4th relationship seminar, How to Date During the Holidays!
